The Józef Żak open-air museum at Markowe Rówienki
Three farmsteads from 1802–1910 in the side valley of Markowa. A forge, a chapel and a cottage with a chimneyless stove – that is, a house with no chimney.

How people lived here before the tourists came
The museum brings together buildings from 1802–1910: three farmsteads, a forge and a chapel. The oldest is the Stopiak cottage of 1802, with a chimneyless stove – the smoke left through an opening in the roof rather than up a flue. It was lit until 1987.
This is not an hour’s guided tour, but a few buildings standing as they stood. It goes well with Park Małych Odkrywców and the Mokry Kozub nature trail – everything is in the same side valley.
It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30–16:00, and closed on Mondays. A ticket costs PLN 3, a concession PLN 2, and the visit takes thirty to forty minutes. In summer there are ethnographic workshops, and in July the Zawojskie Sianokosy, a scythe-mowing contest. Confirm the hours before you drive over.
